The Coatesville Area offers residents a wide variety of home styles and neighborhoods, from active urban living to rural country settings.
History is abundant here, including such notable figures as Moses Coates, who purchased land in 1787 which would someday become Coatesville City, to the Lenni-Lenape pre-colonial people of West Brandywine Township, with their camps and villages along the Brandywine. From Lancelot Fallowfield, who, in 1718, sold land which would become East Fallowfield, to the settlers from Calne England who, decades prior to the Declaration of Independence were establishing what is now Caln Township. The Coatesville Area has truly played an important part in the history of Chester County. And who could forget Dr. Charles and Rebecca Pennock Lukens and Rebecca's father Isaac, the founder of Lukens Steel (now Arcelor-Mittal), the longest operating steel mill in America.
